Prahova valley & the Carpathians

Some of the finest Romanian mountain resorts are located along the river Prahova in a beautiful area with fresh air and often breathtaking landscapes. We will drive along it learning about the long history but also the present day life and realities of the area.

Peles Palace

Away from the busy area of Bucharest, deep in the forests of the Carpathian mountains, lies Peles Castle, the cradle of the Kings of Romania (Hohenzollern dynasty). Built in the late 19th century, this was the place from where Romania’s role in World War I was decided. Known as the Jewelry box of Romania, the royal residence never ceases to surprise its visitors with its beauty and unique combination of decorative elements.

Bran Castle

Still under the spell of Peles Castle, we set out to cross the mountains to Bran Castle the mysterious medieval stronghold. Bran Castle was originally built by the Knights of the Teutonic Order in the 13th century as a strategic defensive outpost. Centuries later, Bram Stoker placed the stronghold into a different world, a world of vampires and of Count Dracula.

Follow us on this trail, from the city to the mountains, from royalty to vampires, from history to legend. Delight yourselves with a traditional Romanian meal and get to know the genuine folk customs of our country!

Ruse

Ruse is the 4th largest Bulgarian city and its main harbor on the Danube River. The town of Ruse was once called Little Vienna and all major innovations to Bulgaria such as electricity, public lightening and others had Ruse as their starting point.

Arbanassi

A village dating back to Middle Ages, when rich merchants build up fortified houses for their protection, the still rich village of Arbanassi looks exactly the same due to the involvement of the authorities who did not allow any redesign of the houses. Of course, inside those houses have all the modern amenities but they kept their original outside look. Some exquisitely painted churches are witnessing a time when Turks suppressed the local religion and restricted their sizes.

Lunch in Arbanassi

Besides its historical and architectural importance Arbanassi hosts some of the finest Bulgarian restaurants and we will have a chance for a typical meal, an occasion for you to find out why the Bulgarians are envied by all their neighbors for the quality of their cuisine.

Veliko Tarnovo

A neat small city of approximately 40,000 inhabitants, Veliko Tarnovo was the capital of the Medieval Bulgarian State, the castle of Tsarevetz standing as a memory of those times. Learn more about a time when the locals were fighting against the Turks for their liberty with the “help” of the crusaders that sometimes turned into a burden for them. The city displays wonderful houses build on rocks and some pedestrian areas where one can walk and enjoy a provincial atmosphere.

Shopping

If you are a shopper or if you simply want to have a memory from Bulgaria, then Veliko Tarnovo is the place for getting it. A long street called the Artisans’ street in the centre of the town is the area where you can see artisans at work and buy some of their outcome.
